신들은 처음부터 모든 것을 계시해 주지 않았다.
그러나 인간은 탐구를 해 나가고, 그래서 조만간 더 많은 것을 알게 된다.
여기 이것들이 마치 진리인 듯 생각하자.
그러나 신에 대한 진리와 내가 말하고 있는 내용을
아무도 알지 못하고 또 앞으로도 아는 자가 없으리라.
만일 어떤 자가 스스로 완전한 진리를 말하는 경우가 있다고 해도
그 자신은 그 사실을 알지 못하며
모든 것에는 겉모습이 덧씌워져 있어 본모습을 가리고 있기 때문이다.

The gods have not revealed all things from the beginning,
But men seek and so find out better in time.
Let us suppose these things are like the truth.
But surely no man knows or ever will know
The truth about the gods and all I speak of.
For even if he happens to tell the perfect truth,
He does not know it, but appearance is fashioned over everything.
